Participants earn points in a variety of ways. Points are awarded for each minute of exercise, with various multiplicative factors depending on the type of exercise. Running, for instance, earns 4 points for every 1 minute of exercise. Running workouts earn 5 points for each minute, and racing earns 8 points for each minute. Other types of exercise are also rewarded, such as rollerblading, playing basketball, etc. Points are also awarded for pushups, sit-ups and pull-ups. Pushups earn .5 points each, sit-ups .2 points each, and pull-ups 1 point each. Additionally, there are many special points awarded for achieving other goals. For instance, reading the book The Five People I Meet in Heaven and writing a 500 word online summary earns 600 points. Attending a summer cross country camp earns 1500 points, and exercising with members of your family earns 10 points for each member. *Point types and amounts are determined by your coach. |

The VisionQuest started as a cross-country motivational summer challenge originally developed as a paper activity for the Lampeter-Strasburg Cross Country team. Runners could earn points for all types of athletic workouts, but especially for running. It began in 1999 with 12 finishers, and has expanded now into its eighth year. Runners keep track of points over the summer and turn in their totals at the first practice of the year in August. This sporting 'tool' could be used by any sport. Each 'Team' can have different activities and goals. |
